2018 Frostwatch Chardonnay
FROSTWATCH VINEYARDS, Sonoma County
Tasting Note: This wine exhibits generous notes of citrus and stone fruits on the nose, with a hint of crème brulee (a character common to Frostwatch Chardonnays). On the palate, the wine is bright, but with a plushness that reveals well-balanced fruit flavors and minerality with good acidity on a lengthy finish. The age-worthy wine will complement many foods but has the complexity and richness to easily stand on its own.
Pairing: Meaty fish: Halibut, cod, lobster, shrimp, crab, and scallops Shellfish: Lobster, shrimp, crab, and scallops Poultry and pork: Simply seasoned dishes
2017 Robert Foley The Griffin
ROBERT FOLEY VINEYARDS, Napa Valley
Tasting Note: This midnight purple-colored blend from Robert Foley opens with a blackberry and boysenberry bouquet with hints of black tea. On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round, and the wine is zesty. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and black tea blend with notes of sage, stony minerality, and red currant. I also detected hints of dark chocolate, cherry, and cardamon towards the end. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins are nicely prolonged.
Pairing: This wine is bistro-friendly and would pair nicely with your favorite pub burger or grilled streak tips.
